26/11/2007 Keenan to sponsor technical seminar series at Grassland Event

Keenan is sponsoring a series of technical seminars at the Grassland & Muck Event organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of England at Stoneleigh on the 21 and 22 May 2008. Organised in conjunction with the British Grassland Society, the seminars will be highly pertinent for any producer looking to maximise livestock production from grazed grass.

“At Keenan UK we firmly believe that grass represents a huge opportunity for increasing profitability, particularly on dairy farms. It’s one of the most un-tapped resources,” says Keenan Nutrition Development Manager, Hugh Kerr. “We are very much more aware about how to grow and harvest grass, but we must now focus on improved utilisation and digestion by the cow to improve Feed Conversion Efficiency and reduce methane emissions.”

The seminar topics plan to focus primarily on the role of grazed grass for feeding the dry cow (both dairy and beef), measuring grass and grass intakes and feed utilisation efficiencies from grazed grass. They will also tackle the practical implications of the revised NVZ rulings.

Using the sown grass plots at the event, Keenan will also bring a practical extension to the seminars by demonstrating how to measure the dry matter of grazed grass and offer guidance on what grass rations physically look like both in terms of their bulk and in their quality.

“Given that in excess of 70% of Keenan customers use grazed grass as their base forage for a large proportion of the year; these are key areas of technical input and research within our business. For this reason, Keenan is delighted to be sponsoring the seminars at the Grassland Event,” Mr Kerr adds.
