19/05/2005 GRASSLAND EVENT PROVES TO BE FIT FOR BUSINESS
The two-day Grassland Event, which took place this week (18/19 May) at Stoneleigh Park, attracted more than 12,000 farmers and contractors – on a par with numbers at the previous Grassland Event in 2002.
Exhibitors were particularly praising the quality of enquiries from visitors, and their commitment to do business.
Clive Deeley from Kemira GrowHow, who partner Grassland Event organisers the Royal Agricultural Society of England, said: “We’ve picked up a lot of optimism among dairy farmers about the future and we’ve seen a great deal of genuine interest in crop nutrition and product choice. For example, around 50% of the farmers entering our Let’s Grow Together competition said that they were looking for further advice on everything from NVZs to nutrient and manure management plans.”
Citing the Grassland Event as a superb platform for demonstrating machines and meeting customers, Trevor Tyrrell of Claas UK said: “People were at the event to see the machines working and make their final decisions.
“The Grassland Event is without question the best technical event we attend. During the two days we talked business to a broad spectrum of visitors, from the UK’s largest contractor to large-scale and family run livestock farms.”
Likewise, Rod Bonshor from Oliver’s Seed, who supplied all the seed for the demonstration site, reported two very busy days. “We had genuine discussions with livestock farmers - sheep, beef and dairy - as well as arable farmers talking about stewardship issues. Business was good and we were getting the right messages across to the right people.”
